Letter from Earl's Mother (Ruth Crockett) - 1935

Preston, Idaho, 29 July 1935

My Dear son Earl

I have first received your letter of the 26th so glad you are all well and prospering financially. I hope and pray you will soon be active in church duties, join the Branch, pay your full tithing, fast donations, half missionaries, and attend church gatherings as often as possible. Fast each month, pray often. We must pray to be humble and faithful. Then you will be storing true riches in Heaven and you will reap great satisfaction and you will have a claim upon the blessings of God in health, wealth, sickness, trails, and misfortune.

We must never put off serving our Heavenly Father life is to short for that, we need all the time there is to work out our salvation and not any one knows how long they may stay in this mortal state. If we miss working out our salivation while we are here and can take our chance to do so, then we will have failed. My Dear Son I feel like writing to you this way and have depended on the Lord to help one do so. I am getting old am very near seventy eight years. I don’t suppose I will ever write to you just this way again. So for you Mother’s sake keep this and read it over once in a while.

I bear you my testimony that what I have here written is true. May the Lord bless you and help you to see and understand how necessary it is that we should serve our Heavenly Father with all our mind, might and strength while it is called to day and all things will be added. For the time will come when no man can work.

From your loving Mother

Ruth C. Crockett
