Letter from Earl's Mother (Ruth Crockett) - 1932

Preston, Idaho, 10 May 1932

My Dear son Earl

Thanks very much to your self and Della for the beautiful Mothers Day gift you sent me. The photo of your dear children it is first grand. Ruth A. And I both exclaimed the first thing. “The baby looks like Earl,” and we think Joy looks like Della. My but how she has grown. And first as plump and pretty as ever. You have two beautiful darlings and I am sure we are all very grateful for them. I had a very happy Mothers Day. I attended Sun. School where all the Mothers were honored and we listened to a wonderful program. Edwin and Ona invited Ruth A., Andrew and me to dinner. After dinner Ruth A., Andrew and me attend 2: PM meeting while Edwin and children visited Lenas grave. At 4: PM he called in his car and took us all to Logan cemetery to visit fathers grave. He wanted to take us for a ride as far as Logan and I wish to go see fathers grave. The stone looked pretty and clean and the lawn lovely. I sent in 3.00 to the Logan City Treasurer for the upkeep of the grave lot this year so they are caring for it alright.

We are having nice warm weather now and gardens are up and growing. All the lawns are beautiful and tulips and Jonquils are in bloom. Edna and I went to the temple last Thursday and each of us was endowed for two names.

Well dear boy your birth day anniversary will soon be here. You are still young and have made a wonderful record for your self I congratulate you; and say keep right on making good records forever. Above all make a good faithful record in your religion, continue always to pay an honest tithing and donations. Attend to your family prayers and church gatherings. Live up to the requirements of the Gospel, keep out of debt, and you never need to feat about the outcome. The Lord will take care of you and family. Will open up the way fo you to get work so you can provide for them. Will bless and prosper you. In face a L. D. Saint is not safe unless he does serve God. There is a big drive on this month of May all through the Church talking up tithing; our Bishop asked me to give a little talk on tithing on our May fast day. Through the helpf of our Heavenly Father and the prayers of our congregation I bore a strong testimony of what the Lord had done for your father and me through praying tithing and tryingto live our religion. Ever since we first went to keeping house after we were married. After meeting I rec’d. three or four nice comps.

There will be a cut in all salaries, I think, by the pakers (sp?) And what is going on generally. I hope you are not laid off however, get if you are there will be a way open up for you. I believe there will be a good many worthy changes that will do a lot of good. I was pleased to learn of Della and Joy taking part in the Mothers Day program in your L. D. S. Branch. I must go mail this now so you will get it on your birthday. I have first come from Relief S. meeting.

I will close with kind love to you all. Oh yes I sure was surprised to learn Robert has blue eyes. Your father and me had a blue eyed boy, George and we did not have blue eyes. And since Edna is getting older here eyes are blue.

Write soon to your loving Mother.

Kisses and hugs for you all.
