Family Letter, 1962

Dear Family:

Since your letters arrived I have been extra busy serving as Acting President of BYU. President Wilkinson is on a special assignment for the First Presidency and will continue for several more weeks. There is never a dull moment in running a university with 11,000 students and 1,200 faculty and staff members. We hope you watched the college quiz bowl Sunday contests while our team did so well, winning four times.

We have been hearing reports with great concern about the floods, Elva and Leo. Margaret Ann has been keeping us informed. We are so sorry for you and your flooded home. Clyde tells me there was a Bancroft flood just like this one, 50 years ago. They went around in boats several days.

We are hoping to see Mabel next Tuesday as Della and I are going to Logan to attend a dedication service for a new building at Utah State University.

Our David and his wife Barbara have moved to Palo Alto, California. He has taken a fine job with IBM company and will study at Stanford for his PhD degree in Engineering. He graduated from BYU in February.

Della keeps very busy as President of the Relief Society in our ward. Clyde is Bishop and is doing a fine job.

Jennie we hope you are adjusting to your lonely life. If you keep active, as I know you are, you will gain happiness. Our Bob's wife Janet and her four children are making a good adjustment but its not always easy for them. She is a hostess at the newly renovated Beehive House once a week. If you haven't been through the house you should do so as its very interesting.

We may go to Nova Scotia, Canada for a month next summer for our vacation. If so we'll have a good chance to visit Marian and Don on the way.

Our love to all of you,

Della & Earl
